Three Corners Counseling now offers DOT SAP evaluations for eligible drivers and safety-sensitive employees located in Georgia. This expands access for drivers who need to begin or continue the DOT return-to-duty process after a drug or alcohol violation.

DOT SAP evaluations are available virtually for eligible clients who are physically located in Georgia at the time of service, along with drivers in North Carolina and South Carolina. The process is structured, direct, and focused on helping drivers understand what must happen before they can become eligible for return-to-duty testing.

What a DOT SAP Evaluation Is For

A DOT SAP evaluation is required when a safety-sensitive employee has a DOT drug or alcohol violation and must complete the return-to-duty process. For FMCSA-regulated drivers, the process is connected to the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

The Substance Abuse Professional completes the initial evaluation, makes the required education or treatment recommendation, reviews completion documentation, conducts the follow-up evaluation, and reports required information according to DOT rules. The SAP does not order the return-to-duty test and cannot guarantee employment or a testing outcome.

How Georgia Drivers Can Get Started

Georgia drivers can help the process move more smoothly by taking care of a few practical steps early. If you are regulated by FMCSA, log in to the FMCSA Clearinghouse and designate the SAP. Complete intake paperwork promptly, have a valid photo ID available for the telehealth appointment, and be ready to discuss the violation, current situation, and any relevant history.

After the initial evaluation, the SAP recommendation must be completed before the follow-up evaluation can happen. Once compliance is verified, the SAP can update the required return-to-duty information. From there, a DOT-regulated employer or authorized C/TPA handles the return-to-duty test and any follow-up testing plan required by DOT rules.

Virtual SAP Appointments Can Reduce Delays

Virtual SAP appointments can be helpful for Georgia drivers who need a clear path forward without unnecessary travel. A private setting, stable internet connection, and working audio and video are important because the evaluation includes confidential clinical and compliance-related information.

The biggest delays often happen when Clearinghouse designation, paperwork, education or treatment completion, or completion documentation is missing. Starting with clear instructions can make each step easier to track.
