After completing the recommended program, you return for a follow-up SAP evaluation. If compliant, I provide a report authorizing the return-to-duty drug test. Who Needs a SAP Evaluation?
A SAP evaluation is required for any DOT-regulated employee who has violated federal drug and alcohol testing regulations. This includes commercial drivers (CDL holders), airline personnel, railroad workers, transit employees, and others in safety-sensitive positions. Common violations include a positive drug test, alcohol test above the legal limit, refusal to test, or other DOT-defined infractions. Before returning to duty, these individuals must complete a SAP evaluation and follow all steps outlined in the FMCSA Clearinghouse process.
